“High frequency” wine!
If you’re a witchy sort like me, you like a good magical ritual or ceremony — followed, of course, by some ritualistic eating and drinking! Which is genuinely part of any traditional pagan occasion. So what’s the best thing for a spiritually conscious ‘party participant’ to consume?! I’ve found it! Oragnic One “high frequency” wine. Its winemaker, Frank Bonic, concurs. “Wine is one of the peak foods that can make life joyous when made with integrity,” he says. “It is perfect for celebrating life, functions, groups, gatherings, weddings… it lifts the whole occasion up, gets you dancing and spreading the happiness. The wine gives more pleasure and more joy… and it picks up the food and energises it – it changes the occasion completely and you wake up feeling good!”
He’s right about that last bit. Organic One is such a pure biodynamic product that its fans — such as supermodel Miranda Kerr — claim “You don’t get a headache from drinking them!” Kerr rarely drinks, but chooses only Organic One when she does. “[It's] one of life’s little luxuries at an affordable price,” she has said. But what is it that makes this particular brand so special?
For starters, Organic One was one of Australia’s first organic vineyards. In 40 years, no chemicals have ever touched their vines, fruit or processes. The Bonic Family vineyards are a 141ha property nestled along the Billabong Creek in Jerilderie, southern NSW, where nature lives in perfect harmony. “It was a calling I was born into,” says Bonic, who grew up on the family estate. “My dad founded the land in the 1970s — at the time he paid a premium price as it is such a unique, beautiful spot. We have our own gardens, our own animals and a conscious way of living. The estate was established on virgin soil – all the natural gardens are fully chemical-free.”
Bonic’s father started natural wine making with organic farming principles, and Bonic took it further in 1989, producing the ‘feel good wine’ that’s sold around Australia today. His family even fought one of the largest court cases in the country against two of the largest chemical companies so that all farmers who want to grow chemically free can now do so. “[We have an] understanding of the whole living system and how when making the wine, any mechanical processing damage can negate its living energy,” Bonic explains. “Bad energy will damage the microbes. That’s the reason we have no ‘off’, bad smells in the winery.”
Organic One is vegan-friendly, with no stimuli, artificial fertilisers, hormones or nasty preservatives. It is harvested by the moon and has been described as ‘high frequency, high vibrance, high energy pick-me-up wine’. “Few people realise the living energy of wine. When done properly it is a superfood, a herb, an elixir,” says Bonic. “When you lift up every other part of nature the microbes in the soil, the plants, the microbes in and on the plant, the ferment – it will continue to lift up every part of the living system. When you start introducing chemicals you start introducing pain into this system and disease. One chemical is enough to knock out an entire rainforest of beneficial microbes.”
Bonic has an innate gift with plants and animals, and intuitively ‘feels’ what the grapes need for nourishment and protection. “A wine that supports the living and lifts people up and that can only come from a living system,” he says. The vines are nourished, supported and then allowed to flourish naturally, with an added touch of magic: they are planted according to the moon’s cycles, in line with Steiner philosophy. “It is working with the cosmic energy but what we do is way more than that - more care and attention,” says Bonic. “I feel the universe made us all for something and I have been fortunate to be gifted with plants and animals.”
