Enough doom and gloom!
Something has been really, really increasingly bothering me lately — both at an ‘I’m generally irritated’ level, and at an ‘I’m feeling deeply spiritually disturbed about this and need to meditate on it’ level. It’s about fear. Or to be more precise, people who seem to be really spiritually evolved in loads of ways, and have lots of beautiful messages and help to offer, and yet are simultaneously obsessed with:
1) Doomsday and/or
2) A secret elite power group that’s trying to kill us.
The kinds of fear-based messages in 1) and/or 2) include things like: Yellowstone Park volcano is going to erupt and cover half of North America with ash and lava and ocean, move yourself and your family to higher ground for 2012 and stock up on tin cans because aliens will land / apocalypse will happen, a comet is going to hit the earth (first it was Elenin, then YU55), we’re all going to be micro-chipped, HAARP is meddling with the earth’s weather systems for sinister reasons, the Illuminati and FEMA are running secret concentration camps, and the government is trying to kill the population with chemtrails (then why aren’t we dead yet? Shouldn’t they just drop a nuclear bomb? Surely it would be more effective). This is just a snapshot of some of the current fear-based paradigms doing the rounds out there — and they’re not just delegated to dodgy conspiracy websites.
A few years ago, I listened in disbelief as best-selling Hay House visionary Caroline Myss warned thousands of people at the Sydney Convention Centre about EVIL — along the lines of, ‘Don’t get caught up in all this love and light bullcrap, NEVER dismiss and forget about the power of EVIL because that’s how Nazi Germany happened!’ All I could think was, ‘You came this far in your career and have an international audience of people hanging off your every word, and THIS is the message you choose to share?’ The world’s No. 1 metaphysical website believes people are ‘programmed’ to think that self-healing helps, which apparently it ‘doesn’t', because anyway this reality’s ‘program is about to end’. (Huh?) And Star Wars mastermind George Lucas was recently outed as belonging to the “we’re all gonna die in 2012 according to Mayan prophecies” bandwagon. The wittiest thing I’ve heard is that we’re about to be banished from the Garden of Eden (earth?) for the sin of accessing the Tree of Knowledge (the Internet) through the apple (Apple Mac laptops). Cute, but let’s move on.
A few weeks ago, I attended a spiritual networking event and was gobsmacked to witness an overweight balding man take centre stage and begin to inform all of us about his incredibly important role in the universe, and how anyone who prays to angels, goddesses or spirit guides is just handing their personal power away to another ‘religion’, that these beings are projected from darker forms who want to keep us from connecting with the truth and power within our own selves, and we should be very wary of them. This was accompanied by ‘Don’t work on your chakras anymore, it fragments you into the illusion of separation’ and ‘Everyone’s wrong about loving the environment. It’s a killing system that kills itself to sustain itself, and we can no longer exist alongside that frequency.’ Like, WHAT?!?! How does a sunset kill something?!
I’m going to make the general sweeping statement that in my experience, people who are obsessed with spreading large-scale ideas about fear do almost ZERO self-work on themselves. They often suffer from low self-esteem and delusions of grandeur, and desire fame and other egotistical pursuits. All of this behaviour makes me want to yell: STOP WASTING YOUR ENERGY ON ATTENTION-GRABBING STUFF THAT’S NOT IN YOUR CONTROL, AND IS NOT UPLIFTING INFORMATION.
Why is it, at a time where everywhere I look I see people becoming more spiritual, more green, more conscientious, more loving and more in collective agreement that the earth is ascending, do we have this simultaneous tidal wave of terror? And how do we deal with it? For me personally, it all began when I stopped watching the news and reading the newspaper. The news presents story after story of negative, fear-based horror focusing on things I don’t want to fill my brain with, and can’t control anyway. As for negatively-geared spiritual people, well, it’s come to the point where I’m up for an argument. I certainly argued with the fellow at the spiritual networking party when he was going on and on about people being taken over while channelling saints etc etc. — I asked him point-blank, “But why is that your business?” Because to paraphrase Byron Katie, there’s three kinds of ‘business’: Your Business, Other People’s Business and God’s Business (eg. natural disasters), and the only one you should be concentrating on is Your Business.
I suppose what I find most astounding is that people forget the fundamental spiritual basics here: 1) Everything that exists outside of you is a projection of yourself. 2) Your belief system is your own subjective truth. 3) Worrying and fearing about things (99.999% of which aren’t provable, haven’t happened yet or haven’t happened to YOU) is a complete waste of energy. Can’t people see — can’t Hollywood see — that all the massive stuff Planet Earth is currently going through isn’t physical, it’s spiritual/emotional? A comet hitting earth and ending life as we know it would be a gargantuan effect. But then, so is the concept of seven billion souls currently awakening into a whole New Age / vibration / dimension. The former is a physical interpretation to express the subtler, more ‘invisible’ undercurrent of the latter.
As humans, we like things to be real, tangible, 3D, physical. And when huge changes, or shifts, occur inside of ourselves, how are we supposed to ‘see’ them? Measure them? Study them in a science lab? We can’t, yo, so get over it. This New Age of Aquarius we’re swimming into comes with some new rules: 1) Science can’t explain practically anything outside its own dimension, and shouldn’t try to. 2) Our egos need to release the need for stuff to occur as visually spectacularly as a Lady Gaga concert in order to ‘prove’ that something’s actually happening, or is important. 3) Stop distracting and deflecting from the most important task you’re being called to, right here, in the NOW MOMENT: create some silence in your life to listen to that inner voice inside you, hear what it has to say, and honour what it wants.

This article is full of “fluff” offering no real substance just a hateful attitude towards people she doesn’t agree with.
Please remove the link to my website, I don’t want to be associated with trash
Hi Rob
More than happy to remove your website — have just replaced it. As for people I “don’t agree with”, I don’t actually say anywhere in this blog that I don’t agree with these theories — I’m not concerned with whether they’re actually ‘true’ or not. My point is that no one evolves physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually by dwelling on negative stuff that hasn’t even happened yet.
Hey Rebecca, i LOVED THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for sharing… xxxxxxxx
Thank YOU Trisha, I’m glad it struck a chord!
I think it struck a chord with Rob to!
Ahhh Yes!! I have been thinking this exact same thing. I am signed up to a highly spiritual Adelaide womans newsletter (I wont name names) but I find that she gives these predictions that are usually about earth quakes, floods etc and they dont come true. She channels the Goddess Isis, and I really love everything to do with Isis and it confuses me because why would Isis want to have us fearing? It really has me questioning how and what gives these people the right to claim to be speaking the words of these awesome beings when they are giving negative messages.
I guess it only confirms that none of us are better than the other and we are all learning lessons whether you are considered to be a highly spiritual human who is writing books, teaching others or you are a retail assistant who in your own time meditates and works with energy. -This is also empowering to know so this may be one of the lesson these people are teaching us.
Anyway I hope that made sense haha! The bottom line is I enjoyed this article!! Thanks Rebecca!
Yeah, it’s amazing how prevalent these ‘doom and gloom’ attitudes seem to be in our spiritual community. Anyone who is channelling is passing information through their own personal ‘filter’. Also, is it more realistic to maintain a balance of positive and negative energies, or is it perfectly OK to exist in the positive only? (Like me?) haha
“A Nod to Psyched in Stilettos”
“…Rebecca’s newsletter, as well as her website, is filled with interesting ideas, psychic predictions and good news of a positive world and a new lease on fulfilling lives with soul directed attitudes. That’s it. No heavy stuff. No Gloom or Doom. Just that which the Soul ordered. So Mr. Complainer, if you ever do read this post, please – lighten up… ”
